Uzbekistan consistently ranks among the world's cheapest countries for expats. A single person can live comfortably in Tashkent on $600–$1,200/month, while families can manage on $1,500–$2,500/month. Samarkand and other cities outside the capital are 30–40% cheaper still. Compared to the US, overall costs including rent are approximately 65% lower.

Uzbekistan's banking system is modernizing rapidly but still has quirks. International Visa and Mastercard are accepted in major hotels, restaurants, and shops in Tashkent, but cash remains essential elsewhere. Local payment apps Payme and Click are widely used. Opening a local bank account is possible with a passport and registration slip.

Uzbekistan has a relatively straightforward tax system. Digital nomad visa holders working for foreign companies generally do not owe Uzbek income tax, as their income is sourced abroad.
