19 pages ยท A worked couple-to-Portugal case ยท Every figure sourced

Same couple, same law, same month. The difference is the order you file in, and it is about two years of being apart.

A finding from the published sample assessment. Read the whole document and check the sources yourself.

Why the details matter

Avoid the mistakes most people make

Every situation is different. These are real findings from our research.

Filing separately

An unmarried couple lets one partner move first, with the other following through family reunification instead of applying together at the consulate.

Potential consequence:

Roughly two years apart. Same couple, same law. The difference is the filing order.

Selling at the wrong time

Planning to sell a US property after becoming a tax resident of the destination country, rather than sequencing the sale first.

Potential consequence:

A potentially significant foreign tax liability on the gain.

Your assessment identifies your specific risks, so you can plan the right way.

Common questions

Is this legal advice?

No. We are not lawyers and we do not represent you or file anything. We research your situation against published law and official sources, and name where every figure came from, so that when you do speak to a lawyer or a consulate you already know which questions matter. For many people that is the whole job.

Can you guarantee approval?

No, and you should distrust anyone who says they can. Decisions belong to consulates and immigration authorities. What we can do is tell you which routes your situation actually fits, what the current requirements are with their sources, and what is most likely to go wrong, before you commit money to any of it.

What if you cannot help me?

Full refund. If we read your answers and conclude we are not the right people to help, we say so and refund you rather than send you something generic.

Does one assessment cover my partner and children?

Yes. One assessment covers you or your household. The form asks about everyone who is moving, because partners, children and dependents change which routes are open and what they require.
