Its bamboo campus, project-based curriculum, permaculture gardens, and commitment to sustainability produce independent, creative thinkers. Alumni speak highly of it. At $8,000–$16,000/year, it is far cheaper than equivalent progressive private schools in the US or UK. The catch: it is hard to get into (apply 12+ months ahead), located in Ubud (not Canggu), and its non-traditional approach does not suit every child or family.

Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) in Yogyakarta and Universitas Indonesia (UI) near Jakarta are Indonesia's top universities by rankings and reputation.
