With the oil boom driving massive demand for skilled workers, work permits have become increasingly common. Employers — particularly in oil & gas, engineering, construction, and professional services — sponsor work permits for foreign nationals. The process is employer-led, and the booming economy means demand for skilled expats often outpaces local supply.

Guyana offers a path to permanent residence for long-term residents who have lived legally in the country for 3 or more years. Citizenship by naturalization is also possible, though the process is longer. Guyana recognizes dual citizenship, which is a significant advantage for expats who don't want to give up their original nationality.
