Guyana's education system follows a British-influenced structure: nursery (3–5), primary (6–11), secondary (12–16), and post-secondary. All instruction is in English, which eliminates the language barrier that expat children face in most other South American countries. However, public school quality varies significantly, and most expat families opt for private schools in Georgetown.

Georgetown has several private schools that cater to expat families, offering better facilities, qualified teachers, and smaller class sizes. The international school scene is small but growing, driven by demand from oil-sector families. Fees range from $2,000–$8,000/year — a fraction of international school costs in most countries.

The University of Guyana (UG) is the country's primary higher education institution, offering undergraduate and graduate programs. While not internationally ranked, it provides accessible education and is particularly strong in fields relevant to Guyana's economy. Many Guyanese students pursue higher degrees abroad, particularly in the US, UK, Canada, and Caribbean.
