Excellent for the right retiree. Agadir is the most popular retirement destination (warm, beach-focused, quieter). Marrakech suits those who want culture, warmth, and activities. Costs are very low - a comfortable retirement on $1,500–$2,000/month is very achievable. The main challenge is healthcare - private insurance and proximity to good clinics matters more as you age.

Very active, especially in Marrakech and Casablanca. Large French and British communities run regular events. International Women of Morocco, Marrakech International Community, and Casablanca Expats Network all have active social programmes. The restaurant and bar scene is excellent. Making friends is straightforward if you're proactive.

Manageable with the right approach. Solo women expats widely report positive experiences, particularly in Marrakech's Guéliz and Casablanca's Maarif. Street harassment (verbal) can occur in tourist areas and medinas - dressing modestly outside expat zones and confident body language help. Most women report feeling safe overall but less immediately comfortable than in Northern Europe.

Important to note: same-sex relations are illegal in Morocco (Article 489 of the Penal Code, up to 3 years imprisonment). In practice, prosecution of foreigners is rare, but public affection between same-sex couples is inadvisable. The expat LGBT+ community exists but operates privately. This is a significant factor for LGBT+ individuals considering Morocco.
