Generally yes. Violent crime is rare, and Chisinau feels safe even at night in central areas. Petty crime (pickpocketing) exists in crowded markets and on public transport. Standard urban precautions apply. The Transnistria region should be approached with awareness of the political situation.

In Chisinau, you can get by with English in the IT community, restaurants, and tourist areas. However, learning basic Romanian (or even Russian) dramatically improves daily life, especially outside Chisinau. Most official documents require Romanian.

Continental climate: hot summers (25–35°C in July/August) and cold winters (-5 to -15°C in January/February). Spring (April–May) and autumn (September–October) are the most pleasant seasons. Winters are long - expect snow from December to March.

In Chisinau's cafés, coworking spaces, and IT community, yes. For grocery shopping, navigating bureaucracy, and dealing with landlords, basic Romanian or Russian is very helpful. Young Moldovans increasingly speak English, but it is not widespread outside the capital.

Wine tours and tastings (Milestii Mici, Cricova, Purcari), café hopping in Chisinau, hiking in Codrii nature reserve, exploring monasteries and rural villages, weekend trips to Romania or Ukraine (pre-war: now Moldova hosts many Ukrainian refugees), and a growing nightlife scene in Chisinau.
