Internet & Connectivity
Internet in the Maldives has improved significantly but remains below the standards of major digital nomad hubs. Malé and Hulhumalé have the best connectivity with fiber broadband and 5G rollout underway. Resort islands have dedicated connections but speeds vary. Outer atolls often rely on satellite or limited broadband — check connectivity before committing to a location.
- Fixed broadband (Malé/Hulhumalé): 30–50 Mbps typical; fiber plans up to 100 Mbps available
- 5G mobile (Dhiraagu): available in Malé and Hulhumalé; improving coverage and speeds
- ISPs: Dhiraagu (largest, most reliable) and Ooredoo Maldives (competitive pricing)
- Monthly broadband plan: MVR 500–900 ($32–$58) for 30–100 Mbps
- Mobile data: prepaid plans from MVR 150–400 ($10–$26) per month with generous data
- Resort internet: variable; luxury resorts offer good speeds; budget resorts may struggle
- Outer atolls: limited connectivity; 4G coverage patchy; not suitable for intensive remote work
