The west coast (KL, Penang, Langkawi) is best from December to March - drier and slightly cooler. The east coast (Perhentian Islands, Tioman) is best from March to October. KL is livable year-round with aircon. For arriving, there is no ideal month - humidity and heat are consistent throughout the year.

Excellent - KLIA is one of the region's best-connected airports and AirAsia's home base makes regional flights among the cheapest in the world. Bali, Bangkok, Singapore, Vietnam, and the Philippines are all under 3 hours away, often for MYR 100–400 return. Malaysia is widely used as a regional hub by digital nomads and long-term expats.

Penang is almost universally regarded as the food capital of Malaysia - and arguably of Southeast Asia. Char kway teow, Penang laksa, asam laksa, cendol, and apom balik are local specialities you won't find at the same quality anywhere else. George Town's UNESCO status has also preserved the cultural and culinary heritage exceptionally well.

Within 4 hours of KL you can hike in the ancient rainforests of Taman Negara, cool off in the tea plantations of Cameron Highlands, visit Genting Highlands casino resort, or take a short trip to Malacca's UNESCO heritage town. Langkawi and Penang are accessible by 1-hour flight for beach weekends.

Yes - alcohol is legally available in non-Muslim establishments including restaurants, bars, supermarkets, and convenience stores (7-Eleven, AEON). It is more expensive than in Western countries due to import duties and taxes (beer MYR 12–20/can in shops; MYR 20–45 at bars). Alcohol is not served in halal-certified establishments. During Ramadan, some venues adjust their alcohol service hours.
