Before You Arrive — Preparation Checklist
A well-prepared move to Lithuania takes 4–8 weeks of advance planning. The most important pre-arrival tasks are securing your visa or confirming your EU free movement rights, arranging initial accommodation (short-term furnished rental for the first month is recommended), and gathering the documents you will need for the asmens kodas application and bank account opening.
- Confirm your right to enter: EU citizens — no visa; non-EU nationals — national visa or relevant permit
- Arrange short-term furnished accommodation for the first 1–3 months while you establish residency
- Gather documents: valid passport, proof of accommodation, proof of income/employment, health insurance
- Non-EU nationals: apply for Startup Visa, Blue Card, or employment permit before arrival where possible
- Research neighbourhoods in Vilnius (or Kaunas) — Naujamiestis, Užupis, and Paupys are most popular with expats
- Open a Revolut or Wise account pre-arrival for day-one spending (Lithuanian bank account comes later)
- Download: Bolt (taxis), Google Maps with Lithuania offline maps, Vilnius Transport app
